This work represents the artist’s first exploration of fabric and dressmaker pins, introducing a novel approach to her artistic practice. Her longstanding interest in textiles and embroidery is evident throughout her body of work, and this piece continues to engage with these themes through an innovative medium.
At first glance, the jacket appears to feature intricate embroidery. However, a closer inspection from the inside reveals that the patterns, which simulate embroidery, are actually created using dressmaker pins meticulously inserted into the fabric.
The title of the piece, drawn from Rumi’s poetry, reflects its exploration of pain and beauty within a spiritual context. By transforming the traditional medium of embroidery into something both tangible and abstract, the artist invites viewers to contemplate the complex relationship between suffering and grace.
