Alluding to inner peace attained through spirituality, this installation features two pieces of South Asian outerwear. The ‘Chogha’ or ‘Atamsukh,’ a traditional long coat with roots in Turkey and known in India for its comforting qualities, serves as the central element. The term ‘Atamsukh’ translates to “giver of comfort to the soul,” referencing the pursuit of the purest form of love, or ‘Ishq-e-Haqiqi’—the love for God. Flames, created by inserting thousands of pins into the fabric, rise from the hemline of the cloak and culminate at the heart, symbolizing the transformative journey toward divine love.
Protecting the coat is a blue shawl adorned with birds and Persian motifs, evoking the vastness of the skies. The black base of the shawl hints at the depths of the soul that must be explored to achieve spiritual bliss. This interplay between the cloak and shawl illustrates the interplay between spiritual aspiration and the quest for inner peace.
